Winter at Brockstone Grasmere Cottage

Winter is a great time to stay at Brockstone Grasmere Cottage.

When the leaves are off the trees the views can be even better. The area is quieter than in the summer months, and many of our guests book their winter slot every year.

We have one winter week still available which is 15 to 22 January 2022.

The Coast of Cumbria

The Coast of Cumbria

Many visitors to our Grasmere Cottage  never move their car for the whole of their stay. They never think of visiting the coast of Cumbria. They walk everywhere, occasionally catching the local buses if they want to go further afield. They take a break from the car- why not when you’re staying in such a wonderful location?

However, some guests do venture out of the main Lakes, and head west to the Cumbrian Coast. You might be surprised to know that there are some lovely beaches in Cumbria and there are some great coast walks that you can do.

Wainwright’s Coast to Coast walk   starts at St Bees. For a shorter walk the St Bees to Whitehaven path is beautiful.

The Beacon Museum and Whitehaven harbour

Whitehaven has been spruced up a lot in recent years. The Marina looks amazing, and there is the Beacon Museum  to visit. In 1778 American Naval Officer John Paul Jones led an attack on Whitehaven. Here is the statue of him spiking the guns. The raid failed, and this was the last, maybe only, attack by America on British soil.

Huge demand for self catering cottages

Huge Demand for self catering cottages

There is a huge demand for self catering cottages in England right now. We’re all unsure about the wisdom of travelling abroad, but we’re a bit fed up with being at home. What do we do? We book a week away in a self catering cottage. We’ve just done this ourselves to enjoy a change of scene and different walks.

We obviously have beautiful scenery and walks here in the Lakes but we wanted to walk more of the Coastal Path so it was over the the east to walk the Cleveland way. It makes us appreciate why guests love their week away here in the Lakes. Lovely accommodation, superb views, and  fabulous walks from the door.... like the one below walking to nearby Rydal Village and Rydal Hall.

We have some weeks available in January 2021 to people coming from Tier 1 and Tier 2 areas and there is an article about visiting in winter here.
