The View from our Cottage

Brockstone view on an April evening

Ah! The View! from Brockstone Cottage. All our guests love the view- who wouldn’t?

We think that Brockstone Cottage has some of the best views of any holiday cottage in the Lakes. Sometimes we can’t resist taking a photos of the view, even though we’ve seen it many times. The view above in the heading is a snap I took as the sun went down. Even though I’m a very amateur photographer, using a simple point and click camera, I managed to get a snap that shows the wonderful skyline view from Brockstone Grasmere Cottage.

Tea on the terrace

Tea on the terrace , Rydal Water down below

If you stand on Brockstone terrace and look down to your left ( to the south west) you can see Rydal Water. The sun rises over the hills behind Rydal Water in the morning. Here’s tea on the terrace on a sunny March day.

Loughrigg Fell rises behind Rydal Water. There is a wonderful walk round Rydal Water from the door of Brockstone, all on beautiful walking paths, which takes you along the side of Loughrigg.

Here’s a video that I took on the morning of Friday, 8 December 2017. It was simply gorgeous!

Look to the West

If you look the other way, to the West, you can see the Grasmere fells ( the local word for hills) . To the right of the tea cosy is Sergeant Man, which is beyond Grasmere Village. Further to the left is Silver Howe, which towers over Grasmere Village . Of course, if you walk up Silver Howe and the other hills, you can look back at Brockstone !

On the far horizon on the left of the picture is Wetherlam, one of the famous Coniston Fells, sitting alongside Coniston Old Man.

One of our guests, who is a much better photographer than I am, took this lovely winter sunset photo from Brockstone Terrace.

Another of our guests took this photograph looking towards Brockstone from a path on the way to White Moss Viewpoint. This is a short walk which takes you to a spot where you can see both Rydal Water and Grasmere. It’s marked on the Ordnance Survey maps as a “Viewpoint” – so don’t just take our word for it!  You need the OS map for the South East Lakes.
