White Moss Tarn, just above White Moss House, is the haunt of this chap ( I think it’s a he!). I see him often, and so get a bit blase about him.
Then, when a visitor sees him for the first time and gets all excited I have to think- should I do a Michael Winner, “Calm down dear , it’s only a heron”, or should I seem very excited too?

I take the excited route. Well, he’s not bad looking, and he loves to pose for photos.
